Reckon i'll be 50 before i ski again (after a gap of 15 years) so I hope it's not too old. Definitely try at Tamworth though, or isn't there a snowdome at Milton Keynes or Hemel?

Start gentle. I once 'enjoyed' a medical repatriation from a skiing holiday!

if you fancy a gentler winter sport I tried curling yesterday - very good fun, highly recommended.

Tried curling once in Scottishland and ended up with a nose bleed and a split lip.

I learned skiing in my late thirties, it was tough but now it’s relaxing.

I tried snowboarding in my twenties, I can’t imagine wanting to fall over so much in my fifties, but they say it’s better for the knees.

Good luck, enjoy.

Mrs Dave learned to ski as a teenager. I wouldn’t mind giving it a try but I know too many adult beginners that have had fairly major leg injuries from learning to ski.

Maybe I could just go sledging?

Sounds too expensive!
Cheaper than skiing (or being in a winter sports resort)!!

You are at an advantage as a cyclist having strong legs , balance and a sense of direction.
This is true - I started cycling regularly a few years after I started skiing - the following ski season I noticed a huge difference in leg strength. My balance has always been pretty good though!

The thing that takes longer as you get older is recovery time. Even if you are fit you will probably find muscles you didn't know you had.
Good luck.

Sledging is done on body-board like things these days and is a HUGE HOOT! HUGE!
