Leather care

The leather bush hat that I wear when riding on rainy days is showing signs of wear after ca. 6 yrs of being worn in all weathers and spending one night in a field after being blown off in a partticularly vicious rainstorm: the surface is beginning to flake off exposing the hide underneath.

Does anyone have any tips how to stop this going any further; or prevent it if I get a new hat in future? I wondered about using my Brooks Proofhide on it but wasn't sure...

If it's leather Proofhide won't hurt it. Or try something like this -

[QUOTE 5348011, member: 9609"]fix it up with patches sourced from old leather gloves - rivet or gorilla glue them on
never buy new stuff when you can mend - put the enviroment first
works a treat with my boots

I must admit that didn't occur to me but there's no reason I couldn't do it if I can source the leather... Many thanks @User9609
