Hi there

There are a group of us doing The Way of the Roses Cycle (Morecambe to Bridlington). Myself and one my friends are travelling down to Morecambe the day before and staying overnight. My friend has booked a guest house and the manager has said that he has secure bike storage in his shed. Me being me (anxiety and all that!) I just think the worst (bike going to get stolen and all that) - I would be much happier taking my bike into the room with me.

Is it too late to change your arrangements and stay at the Travelodge in Lancaster? They normally allow bikes in rooms, and it's only going to add an extra 5 or 6 miles to your first day, getting to the start point. In fact, you could even get a train from Lancaster to Morecambe.

Have you asked where the shed is? If its in a secure garden then I would assume that would be fine. I've Ieft my bike in some sheds that were more secure than my brick garage. The devil is in the detail.

I would worry too, unless that shed really WAS very secure!

PS Please be VERY careful on the descent of Greenhow Hill into Pateley Bridge. It is very easy to get it wrong and I know of at least 3 fatalities on that one short stretch. I witnessed an accident which left a cyclist lying unconscious in the middle of the road. Just be careful, and you'll be fine. It's a great route - have fun!

Ask if you can take the bike inside.
If the answer is no, just take the front wheel and the seat post, that should be enough deterrent for a night, unless your bike is a carbon worth thousands.

Is it not possible to D lock, or chain the bike to something relatively immoveable in the shed? If it's locked up and the shed is padlocked it should be OK.

My sister runs a B&B down here on the Isle of Wight, and although she will let people bring their bikes in to the conservatory, I think she would draw the line at bikes in the bedrooms. It is someone's house after all!

The short trip out along the old railway from Lancaster to Morecambe is flat and will be a good warm up for you. As Colin warns, look out going down into Pately Bridge. Enjoy the Yorkshire Wolds, it's a much-ignored and fascinating area.

Ive also seen pictures of bikes being washed in the bath. I cant see Mrs Psycolist standing for either practice, and honestly, I am surprised that the afore mentioned hotel chain sanction bikes in bedrooms, do they charge you for a double ?
Why's the bike need a bed?
