I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
My first post in cafe but its quite a serious subject.

My mum buys the Daily Mail, yes I know! Ive tried unsuccessfully to get her to switch, she tried the Guardian for a couple of weeks but I think this may have been a step too far, "its boring". Does anyone have a suggestion for a Daily Mail alternative, gossipy but with less nastiness. I thought of the Express but it doesn't seem much less nasty.

Can't your mum make her own choice then?

The Huffington Post?

Personally I like a nice big paper like the Telegraph (I read the letters page) but the reason I purchase it is because its nice large pages are a good size for making paper seedling pots ^_^ how can we advise on a paper if we are not given what you want it for or are primarily interested in?

If your Mother is that doo lally she cannot be trusted with choosing her own paper then I doubt she retains enough of it for you to worry about changing it.

There's no easy route away from the DM. She'll have to go Cold Turkey.

The Telegraph is pretty easy reading these days, it's not what it was. I like the small Indipendant for a quick 20p news fix these days (and as they're the free alternative to the DM on most flights these days, it's what I read most).
I've tried the Grauniad on several occasions but it's just to earnest ....

My Folks buy the DM, a habit they picked up from my ex wife as it is her preferred world view.

I 'read' the cartoons in it and have the TV guide, my Mum reads the health pages, Dad reads the sports pages. They are getting on a bit and I can't see the point of changing their habit unless they were keen to do so themselves.

My preferred read is the Metro as it is free and we also have the two local papers.

I get most of my 'news' from the internet or the TV.

Don't bother with a newspaper at all. They rarely tell you anything worth knowing. TV and radio news is even worse.
Well personally I dont but she likes to have a read in the morning and prefers paper to a computer screen.
