You were the one who was defenceless. Her poor standard of driving put you at serious risk, so you acted with great restraint in that context.

Possibly she'll now start to be aware of cyclists when she's driving. How can that be a bad thing?

well i rode back around that estate tonight and there was no car to be seen, in fact there were hardly any cars about and most of the houses are brand new and empty, for sale and sold signs everywhere.

not going to go out of my way to find her but still not feeling any better about it

regardless of what happened im not proud of ranting and raving at a defenseless young girl

She endangered your life so get over it.

She is in charge of a machine which has a potential to kill in the wrong hands.

Hopefully she will get over it (and learn) before she injures someone.

At that age they are probably too young to drive and too inexperienced in life.(I know I was)

I didn't get round to giving my 2d worth!

jig-sore, your reaction was completely understandable in this situation. Hospitals and graveyards are full of victims of people who 'didn't think'!

Don't beat yourself up about your behaviour: your family would have been less charitable if you had come to grief.

Just my 2p worth; 'she didn't think'; she'll hopefully have 60 years plus of safe motoring from now on and will think; we've all got to learn somehow and its better she learnt without somebody actually getting hurt. If you hadn't confronted her jig; she would have never learned and that could of been worse for both her and others!

Recently I was cycling down a road which narrows to single track for a distance of 25 metres. As I was half way down it a car came towards me travelling at speed. Now there was no way I could have gone anywhere as on my left there was a high hedge right on the road side, on the right there was a garden with a rockery. The car which should have stoped to allow me through, carried on and actually speeded up. At the very last second the car swerved to the left and mounted the rockery at speed with an almighty bang and scraping noise.

I then realsied the driver was the 17 year old girl who lives next door and is best friends with my own 17 year old daughter. She did substantial damage to her car. It was a lesson to her, which luckily was learned following damage to plastic and metal. She wasn't thinking either.

My own daughter has just passed her test. My mantra to her everytime she goes out is drive slowly, careful at junctions and look for bikes.

You may feel bad but if you'd calmly explained your problem with her driving it wouldnt have nearly the same effect. I believe you did her and other road users a favour. Harsh, but sounds like she needed a wake up call. Hopefully she wont do the same thing again. I know when i was 17 i nearly knocked a motorcyclist off-really shook me up-he gave me a good b*llocking at the next lights. I've ALWAYS checked over my shoulder when changing road position ever since. Twas a good lesson.

At least she chose the rockery, I have a feeling that a lot of drivers would have just plowed into you.

It's better than ignoring her poor driving. Next time it could be someone under her wheels. If people aren't educated they remain oblivious. I've given a few lectures, and usually remain quite calm. Unless they're abusive towards me...now that make HULK mad....HULK kick car, HULK shout abuse, HULK........quickly departs the scene, hoping for a footpath escape!
