Left hooked & bike written off!

There I was waiting for the lights to turn green when I hear a van behind me & it doesn't seem to be slowing down. I look over my shoulder & sure enough this guy almost certainly is going to jump the light, about 4 meters away I see his left indicator flash as he moved out to the right side of the road... OH S**T!, at this particular junction the ASL is placed a long way forwards - basically in the mouth of the junction. I jump off the bike onto the pavement to hear the crunch of the front wheel & carbon forks getting run over by the van's back wheel, which also mounts the kerb. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get the reg of the van & no rear cam mounted today but hopefully the front cam will have caught something.

No injuries to me but that's the B'man hybrid written off; KOed front wheel (which wasn't standard but a Halo Freedom Disc 29er), shattered forks which didn't give up before twisting the top tube of the frame & bent handle bars.

Police and local traffic and highway authority should be called immediately, most traffic junctions have camera's and if they don't then usually there will be another camera within view.

fimm, as I jumped off the bike I kicked it sideways into the road so I duno but I'd infinitely prefer a damaged/written off bike than being hit by a van doing 30-40mph

Sounds like a mad man anyway ... you did the best thing getting out of the way ... what would be so important that you would risk killing someone rather than stop at a light....!

OMG. Bright side is that you are OK. Do you have insurance for the bike? Did your camera pick up anything? I seriously hope the Police find that lunatic before he does the same or worse to somebody else!!
