This summer we thought abour replacing living room bay window and small bedroom window.
Well Everest their price was just so silly i escorted him out down the driveway and he was still quoting.
So i then got a quote from SAFESTYLE you know the one i mean BOGOF.Well they were just as silly, but they have pestered me with phonecalls, last time they rang i was polite and told them we were short of money, the wife had just lost her pt job.and we were in no state to take on any debt.
So the guy said he would ring in twelve months time.
We the company has just rung, well my head came off i even surprised myself,i ranted and screamed down the phone,i was still screaming down the mouthpiece when the wife cut me off.
I had really gone off on one.
I'm laughing now, i think that will be the last i hear from them.:wacko::boxing:

We had a sales person call offering windows with a BOGOF offer. After a long negotiation I got the young lady to agree that if I paid for the upstairs windows they would fit the downstairs free of charge. I then told her that I lived in a bungalow and asked if the deal was still OK. Her response, 'I'll have to ask my boss, I'll phone you back' I'm still waiting.

Whoops. Just use a local company. No messing and cheaper. The big companies are a joke.

The company that did ours popped round, measured up, gave us a handwritten quote and left it to us. Big company were here for 2 hours on the hard sell. Local company was half the price ! Needless to say they got the business and we've used them again to replace sealed units that failed many years later - they even re-used the internal decorative 'window' bars so that the glass panes matched perfectly.

My new windows are being installed next Wednesday. I had the nationals around and got all the loblocks from them. The local guys came round, measured up, e-mailed a quote, and got the job.

I had my front windows replaced 18 months ago. Before ringing anyone I knew the style and material I wanted for the windows. I rang 3 companies.

The first (who shall be nameless, but let's call them Crystal) came round and told me my choice was wrong and too expensive and quoted me on something I didn't want. They also told me to sign the "quote" which, when I unfolded it turned out to be an order-form. He also wouldn't give me a quote if I didn't agree to take out his companies loan for the work. I escorted the gentleman from my premises whilst he got rude about taking up a lot of his time and he thought I was going to sign immediately (when I told them on the phone I wouldn't).

The second (who shall be nameless but let's call them Anglian) came around and I said immediately, I just want a quote and would make up my mind in the coming week. The salesman said he couldn't do me a quote like this! I said thankyou and goodbye - then he changed his mind and then proceeded to spend an hour going through a sodding video and samples. In the end he gave me a quote, but was clearly making it up as he was "adding up" on a calculator so quickly he was simply punching random numbers. When I looked at it and said it looked very reasonable he suddenly "realised" he had forgotten some extra item required for the windows which was £90 per window. Cue more frantic jabbing at the calculator and he gave me back a number £300 more expensive. When I pointed out I was having 6 windows which would come to £540 extra he said "oh, of course", jabbed at the calculator one more time and came back with a quote that was £700 more. He was astonished when I didn't sign the contract and pestered me for days on the phone until I phoned his boss and told her that she was employing idiots who couldn't even manage to overcharge correctly.

The third arrived, gave me a quote, left within half an hour and said he would ring in a weeks time. He duly rang, I told him he was a bit expensive and he looked at the figures and we negotiated a price that was amenable to both of us.

I thought the "hard sell" was dead. Presumably it works in enough cases so that it is worthwhile alienating people like me. I work in sales and marketing (business to business). If I treated my clients like I was treated by the first two I would be sacked in a week. Incredible.
