53 years old , no mortgage , wife, grown up son , so no real commitments, after debts setlled have about 10 grand . Wondering wether to pack my job in and go touring on the continent for a few months as ive always wanted .


just the coming back and getting work im thinking about, any views welcome , constructive please

It sounds like an excellent thing to do. However, if you need to work when you come back I'd suggest trying to sort something out first. I know a few 50-odd year-olds who have had difficulty finding work because the companies didn't think they'd be there for long, only to appoint graduates who took a lot of training and then left in three years ;)

Perhaps your current employer would give you unpaid leave? Always worth asking.

thought about sabbatical but dont think theyd wear that as a major sponsor of prime time tv evening advertising ! thats why it thought about , severing all ties and coming coming back virginlike lol x

Just go for it, I've recently visited Pompeii and Herculaneum, two places that have been on my must see list for years, it's a wonderful feeling ticking places of a list like that, like you my kids have flown the nest and the mortgages are paid, I had a payout from a pension and for the first time I could afford to go.
