The sunset is getting later every day from now until 24th June.
But, for reasons I can't explain without drawing diagrams, the earth's orbit being elliptical being the main one, the earliest sunset is before the shortest day, the mornings draw in for a bit even after the solstice.I've got the 22nd http://www.timeanddate.com/sun/uk/leeds, where the day is 1 second shorter. The last decrease this year.
I've never understood why the dates of the earliest sunset and latest sunrise are a couple of weeks apart. Anyone care to explain, in words of one syllable preferably?
Think of it this way: The Sun is not at the centre of our orbit, it's offset a bit.Nope, too many big words, diagram would be great.![]()
