I am taking my mother away for her 80th at the very end of February. As she lives 10 mins from LBA airport I gave her a lot of choices, Gdansk looked great but.......................she is determined to be taken to Lincoln.

I've been once, nice, seemed like a smaller York, but what should/could we see to keep me and an 80 year old occupied for 2 whole days? I'll be driving her bright lemon Fiat 500 so can get about a bit.

The cathedral is a wonder of course and there's one very nice old hill, though not sure an 80 year old would welcome it. Not a lot else there as. I remember but then you can just chill with your mum which will be nice.

Do make sure you spot the Lincoln Imp.

Am intrigued - why is she so keen to see Lincoln? Old memories, a hidden past?

Car sounds nice.

Don't blame her for not wanting to fly. A drag these days.

Imperial Teas is the magnet that draws me there ( on Steep Hill ), but an hour would be a long visit . . .

A while back a local paper did a list of the 15 best things to do in Lincoln, it only got as far as 9 and then ran out of idea's, 3 of those was have an ice cream.

The Cathedral, Castle, Lincolnshire life museum. Shops, but not a great selection and even those are run and stocked poorly.

I am struggling to come up with any idea's, I live 10 miles from the city and it is the wide open spaces that I like. We venture into Lincoln most Saturdays for brekkie and a few shops, and maybe a Saturday night gig or the comedy club.

The Magna Carta is run by a cycling buddy, it can get busy in there. I prefer The Strugglers around the corner, live music at 5pm every Sunday.

We had a nose around Lincoln over the Christmas hols. The Cathedral + Castle is a good afternoon, add in pottering around the shops on Steep Hill and grabbing lunch and that's probably a day sorted. There's a museum based on the old jail in the Castle grounds which kept us occupied for a couple of hours itself.

A reckon you could do a pretty good pub crawl circumnavigating the castle, but probably that's not on the cards with your 80yr old mother.

Day trips would maybe include a nose round the Wolds? The seals at Donna Nook? Cleethorpes front and Grimsby Fishing Museum?

We stopped for a pint there and it was absolutely full of roadies in kit. I wondered where all the bikes were.

If you do end up skeggy way, this might be nice to pop to if they serve non residents.

I remember it as a nice "pub" with a very nice garden but it seems to have become a branded hotel.

It used to feel like a medium sized country house. Maybe it has had a make-over and been ruined.
