She's got about it a bit in her life but hasn't been to Lincoln, that's the only reason. I'd have liked to have taken her somewhere else but it's her birthday and her choice.

I think I'll set off later the first day to save some of the attractions for the second................:sad: Third day, I think we'll leave the big city excitement and go to Louth and then onto the coast.

Newark is quite pleasant near the river.

Has a castle though maybe not for an 80 year old clambering over it.

Then if you get to Newark you could always go to Nottingham? (doesn't have what one would really call a castle) Has Theatre, Opera House etc.

Handy for motorway home?

I'm sure you can fill two days - I'd do some research on some nice country pubs for quality food.

I loved both the cathedral and the castle - the castle wall walk is interesting. There is also a Victorian prison museum. Getting to see the Magna Carta was a huge highlight for me but then mediaeval history is my thing. We stayed 2 nights last Easter and I found enough to do.

My DIL is a teacher there, she loves the place.

I offered Berlin, Paris, Milan, Cologne, Budapest and Barcelona too, but Lincoln it is. :sad:

Visit nearby Epworth,birthplace of John Wesley? I thought him an interesting chap. Gives you an insight into some of the schisms that happened within the Church and how the Church establishment got upset
I liked it how he used to preach out in the open...and some of the establishment used to send local intoxicated locals to break up his preaching and cause fights. I also thought it fascinating that he used to ride all over the country on his horse when there were no metalled roads. People used to attack and abuse him. In the end he sorta became a national treasure and folk hero and when he died people missed him. On another occasion you(or mother) might like to see his 'exercise bike',a rocking horse he used to keep himself fit with...down in London. History of Christianity and its dissenters...quite interesting
Quite a few Methodists come from all over the world to visit Epworth. (But don't get too excited about it!!)
