I'm really surprised to hear about Lincoln being rubbish for pubs/nightlife these days! I lived there for quite a long time (I was RAF but had my own house near Brant Road) and left in 2000. The nightlife used to be buzzing, it's one one the things me and Mrs Dodgy miss most about Lincoln. Depending on what we wanted, we could go to the old pubs by the cathedral and followed by a meal in Brown's Pie Shop, or maybe a curry on the way down Steep Hill. There used to be a good string of pubs near the cathedral and a few more down Steep Hill.
Also used to like being on The Barge in Brayford Wharf on sunny warm days.

and I think there's a cat cafe opening soon that could solve this issue. He'd prefer to bring his, but finding accommodation that would allow him's a bit difficult.

I wouldn't count on the cat cafe sticking around.

Piece Hall looks nice but is still a bit empty of decent shops to date. Hopefully it'll pick up.

And back to Lincoln - thanks for this @MarkF as it's looking like my eldest will be studying there from September. It's the only one of 4 universities we've all liked and he has an Unconditional offer. A weekend trip is planned, although we'll also be down for the Lincoln Grand Prix in May, so this'll be helpful.

However given that he has a learning difference we'll also be making sure he knows where the shops, etc. are. Someone / somewhere with a cat would also help and I think there's a cat cafe opening soon that could solve this issue. He'd prefer to bring his, but finding accommodation that would allow him's a bit difficult.

My youngest son has a choice between Lincoln and York, he visits both as he has friends at the universities, he's leaning towards York and I hope he goes there. Lincolns university is in a great location, the centre was pretty spread out for small City and I did notice the directional signage was great, never seen so much, you can't get lost!

I visited the Leeds cat cafe last weekend, is it a chain? I do hope you find somewhere for him and his own cat.:okay:

Agree about Piece Hall.

It was dead, I even walked to an off licence I'd seen (Premier?) after giving up on finding a pub with customers. It was closed.

However, I did notice many very large hanger type student clubs/bars so it must be busy at other times, I caught it at the end of Feb in unusually freezing conditions.

On a summer's night it's heaving around the Lion and Snake near the Cathedral. Some of the better pubs are off the beaten track, though. We used to like Strugglers and the nearby Victoria (AKA 'The Vic') both good for real ale, or at least they were.

The Strugglers is a great pub.

Oddly enough he's got the same choice; Maths & Physics at York or Mechanical Engineering at Lincoln. He found York to be a bit too big after spending a week there last year and an interview there last month hasn't changed his views much. He's got offers from Queen's & Nottingham Trent as well but has narrowed it down to the same two as yours.

The Leeds Cat Cafe has the same owner as the Nottingham one, so not quite a chain.

I fear you are doomed do die in lincoln.

Still, you can visit the bomber command museum/memorial on visits - sounds interesting.

Bollocks, son about turned and chose Lincoln over York.

Mine's done exactly the same and will be doing Mechanical Engineering. He's decided partly due to the lack of tutorials at York. Cat's staying with us.

What's your son going to be doing?

Also, is it worth getting them to meet up as you're local to me?

Mine liked that Lincoln really sold themselves whereas York were blase. He's going to be school teacher, he's already working full time at a school as an assistant/sports coach.

Once school is out I would imagine he'd be free and am sure that he'd be happy to make contact with a fellow local newbie down there.

Well I was too harsh on Lincoln, it was a lovely day yesterday, the sun was out (ish) the weather warm, streets packed. I sat outside the Magna Carta pub with a cold beer, the sun bathing the cathedral above me and a tip top busker nearby and thought, "Lincolns a nice place". :okay:
