Abbey Park is being flattened.
It won an award back in the day, but I understand the developer has since been imprisoned. It was a rabbit warren of walkways and ginnels, very difficult for a non resident to navigate. The night we took the kicking we had heard a disturbance and found two local shitheads attacking two women. They ran as we approached, but the women's family arrived at the same time and turned on us. We arrested three of them in the ensuing brawl, but help was a long way away and couldn't find us in the labyrinth. My mate suffered a head injury from being hit with a brick, but I managed to knock one unconscious and hang onto two more that were worse for wear whilst effectively shielding my mate. We were backed into a corner with him on the floor, and I went down eventually from weight of numbers. Colleagues answering our emergency call arrived in the nick of time. I was convinced at the time that we were literally fighting for our lives. Not an experience I would like to repeat.
