Just found out that this branch of Betty‘s is closing. So sad as I have long memories of Taylor’s as it was then known, since the late 1970s. I much preferred this quirky tea room to the more formal branches in York and Harrogate. Queues up the stairs and the dilemma of whether to sit in the smoking section! Intimidating waitresses kept the customer polite. Earl Grey and cinnamon toast shared with family and friends. Sitting reading the Yorkshire Post on long wooden poles. Was always expensive, slightly preposterous, but a wonderful experience.

This one was just too small to be economical. I think they are keeping the shop and the main York branch. I once sent my partner on a Bettys cookery course, still paying back...!

Damn, they usually still had fat rascals when the main tea room/shop had sold out, I do like it when I’ve got jobs at Taylor’s factory, as you get the Bettys food/drink FOC in the canteen :okay:
