Annoying that the Beeb focused on the failure, rather than the successful launch etc.

"Close but no cigar" The guys at the Kennedy Space Centre last week were besides themselves with excited that SpaceX were even going to try to recover and reuse the first stage. iirc there is a very finite supply of 'left over' rocket engines for SpaceX to use after which it is going to get very expensive as new engines will have to be built.

What's not to like?

Successful launch? Check!
Functioning basic recovery system? Check!
Smoke/noise/FIRE? Check!

I don't think the H&S Executive would be too happy though...
