I'm going to be staying near Ormskirk for a few days in September. I plan to visit Martin Mere and the red squirrel reserve at Formby.

It would be easy enough to spend a day in Liverpool but would I enjoy it? Is the Beatles Story worth seeing? I do love sixties music but I'm not particularly a Beatles fan.

What about the museums? Anything in particular worth seeing? I'm mostly interested in natural history & crafts/textiles. I don't mind looking at art, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it.

I'm not interested in shopping

Liverpool is great, I am certainly going back again.

Martin mere and formby are both good. Don't forget the Gormley statues nearby

Liverpool is worth a visit with some good museums. The World museum is a great mix of natural history with space, egyptian-anglo saxon ... and has a great, free planetarium at the top. Its next door to the Walker art gallery which is extensive.
The museums on Albert dock are good (Liverpool, maritime, slavery, ...) are also good. Sudley and Lever probably has a bit more crafty stuff.

If it's a really bright sunny day, walk into the centre of the Catholic Cathedral and look around... the stained glass is magical.

Lots to see, two cathedrals, the ferry, Albert docks. Just outside, Speake hall and the child of hale's grave. At Ormskirk you have their special church and Southport is worth a visit and if your luck is in you can even see the sea. Also one of the best 10 courses from Skemersdale to Windle.

Enjoy your trip

You must go to the Sherry museum in Birkenhead......

......It is a little known fact that in the 1800s all sherry was imported into the UK into Birkinhead, but was shipped across the river for onward distribution to the rest of the UK.....

...... Hence the famous Liverpool folk song "Sherry, across the Mersey"
