I came across a short discussion on CycleChat regarding whether there ever was a Scottish youth hostel named "Loch Eck". I
Iooked out my old SYHA membership card, which has stamped on it 5 times " Loch Eck" for the 5 nights my friend and I spent at the hostel.
The year was 1951. We had sailed from Glasgow to Dunoon. I was 16 years of age.
One memory I have of it was our midweek bus trip from Loch Eck to the cinema in Dunoon, where we were delighted to find the charge was 3 (old) pence, about half what we paid in Govan cinemas!
