What does £15,000 of modifications even look like?
Pointless?

Given you aren’t actually allowed to travel outside your local area except for very specific exemptions, why does it matter if the service is overdue... not like you can go anywhere in it. Presumably a car like that lives in a garage anyhow?

you asked for opinions but as above, you’ve clearly decided it’s acceptable...

I could buy another identical car and still have about £5,000 change.

I have all my service history from this one garage as they are a specialist for my vehicle

I don’t think I’ve had anyone look at the service book when I’ve sold a car, all they’re interested in is that it’s been regularly serviced and looked after. I can’t believe the garage is that exceptional that it warrants a 300 mile round trip.

The car is my only transport other than the bike and I am working every day so it is actually getting quite a bit of use.
As you said travel is only for specific reasons which an MOT is a valid reason I just seen in bit of a situation where my work is always done quite a way from my home

Think you’ve been overcharged.

Can all the work and a 300 mile round trip be done in one day As clearly you can’t stay anywhere overnight...and it would be even more outrageous to leave it there and then go back to collect!

Just to add I wasn't after people’s opinions on if they think I should or shouldn’t I was after information on the legality of it and whether it was technically allowed

Am I am still allowed to travel?
Won't be a popular answer, but WTF.....
It sounds like it's probably a rare type of car - but you haven't mentioned what it is. If I was fortunate enough to own a Maclaren or similar, then I certainly wouldn't be letting any local garage get their hands on it. A specialist car needs specialist mechanics, and if that is really what you are describing here then I would be taking it the 150 miles. But I wouldn't have asked a random bunch of cyclists on the internet first, surely you could have predicted the verdict? Especially on the board you chose to post on. Try the motoring board, they might be more sympathetic.

To my mind it is no more risky than the huge amounts of van and lorry drivers that are still driving all over the country very day as part of their job. Don't tell me they are all being tested frequently, or adhering to the rules. The roads around here are still very busy, as they have been throughout lockdown mk3. I would suggest you do all the obvious stuff like fill with petrol locally before you leave, carry food and drink with you so you are minimising stops and contact with others. Wear a mask, use hand sanitiser. You are then doing more to prevent spread than most of the numpties I see coming to my home town for no obvious reason. Go straight there, get your MOT/service done, and drive straight home. Use common sense.

A reasonable person would take the view that you could get the work done on your car locally, so I don’t personally think it is technically allowed. You would have a tough time explaining it if you did get stopped.
