Finally giving up and expanding our storage of crap into the loft.

Problem is that the insulation is heaped on top of the joists so there is nothing visible to attach loft boards to.

Do I reduce the insulation so I can attach boards?

Or add wood to the joist like stilts and board over the top?

Or is there some other solution (apart from burning the crap we don't need)?

Get rid of it. :okay:
I boarded some of my loft out maybe 10 years ago and used it for storage.
Maybe 10 years later I binned 90% of it because it never moved. It's generally just used for the suitcases and Xmas Dec's nowadays.
I've yet to find a way...or the will...to get rid of the rest of the crud we keep because we can't get past the idea it still might be useful.

Okay, £15 * 2 for 24 loft stilts it is!

I think it will just be clothes going up there, either way there no chance Mrs Pot going up there so I will Have Total Control.

I'm quite looking forward to knowing where things are in one part of the house at least.

7 hatches in this house and all but one have stuff behind them, to be fair though some of it does come and get used.

I wasn't sure if these stilts were a joke or not.

I might have a proper look as I have a similar situation here and a garage that I can't fit a car into.
