I now have a place on the London -Brighton ride. Just one question: what is the best way to get from West Hampstead to Clapham with a Dutch bike? I thought I would preserve my energy and not cycle there so I am looking at other options. Any advie would be very welcome.

It's only 6 or so miles so I'd suggest cycling it slowly to conserve your energy.
It must be downhill to start too?

I tried to treat it as a 'bike ride' once and it was pretty scary, even though we were first away. Only good thing was we were back in London by 8.30 so could go and do something more interesting with the rest of the day.

how did you manage that? i thought the first start was at 6am and the trains don't let cyclists on either!

It was about 8 years ago when the trains were still cycle friendly. I think we were also out of the Park way before 5 and in Brighton by 7 ish. It was a Northerly breeze and we were in a well drilled pace line with a load of blokes from one of the London Bike shops.

Only six miles? That will be fine. My London based children led me to believe it was a long way.
