Does anyone know of any decent b&b's in Central London that dont cost the earth ?
I am planning to spend a few days exploring the capital by bike after the Olympic games have finished, and was hoping to get somewhere suitable ( with bike storage ) for no more than £50 per night.
Is this realistic ?
Would you recommend staying centrally or is there better options with good cycling links to places of interest ?
A nice friendly bar in the evening would be fine.. no need to be close to theatres etc.
I ( possibly we as a mate has shown interest ) would be arriving by train
Thanks

I think that'll be tough. I worked a lot in London last year and stayed in some disgusting flea pits around the £50-£70 mark.

I can recommend the Cardiff Hotel, no lift. so lower room best, £65 is the Olympic time price.? Clean, next door to Paddington station and easy ride to wherever. An eat as much as you want breakfast (continental + English) is included, fill yourself for the day and that is worth a tenner surely? The Ashley Hotel next door will be a similar price, not bad but not as good.

I'm a bit wary of recommending accommodation to someone I don't know, but here goes.........
The County Hotel in Upper Woburn Place is very conveniently placed for Euston and Kings Cross. They charged me £49.00 a night for B&B around the 25th May. I left my bike down in a basement storeoom, although the store room was fairly full. On a previous visit they allowed me take the bike into my room. There are no ensuite facilities, but the communal showers and toilets have been refurbished recently and were always kept clean, there have never been queues:rolleyes: when I have been there.^_^
I don't think there is a bar, and the whole place is a bit dated, but by London standards I would consider it good value for money.
My only complaint would be the breakfast fruit juice.

Thanks for the suggestions so far
These are roughly typical of what I was hoping for considering my reluctance to fork out more
As long as they are reasonably clean and I wont be catching something horrible off the bedsheets xx(
You hear all sorts of stories and MarkF may have a few to tell by the sound of it !!
Please keep them coming and I will get a shortlist to make a final decision
Thanks again

Youth hostels have to abide to the same rules that Hotels have to these days, gone are the days when the Hosteller had to do Jobs around the hostel, no sheets these days nice duvets these days with the covers changed after each person. most provide good food, and have bars as well. Apart from that you can meet like minded people, share ideas etc.

Thank god I don't work there now. Many times I have seen my room and nearly started crying, I've often not washed because I didn't want to take my clothes (or shoes) off and expose my skin to god knows what. You would not believe what I have seen in our capital. Worst place ever was the Spring Park Hotel Seven sisters Road, a builders skip would have been cleaner, more comfy and safer. You are right in this territory at £50, good luck! ^_^

Prob not what you want but I have got the week running up to the Olympics at the Travelodge in Excel for £40 a night (£80 on opening ceremony night). 5 miles from the City, but cheap and clean.

£50 for nice+central sounds very tough to me

Have you considered the cyclist hospitality site warmshowers or even couchsurfing ?

TBH, I do like the idea of these types of site
Not for me though, I'm a miserable old git much of the time and like to socialise when it suits me or keep my own company if not.. I would feel a little beheld in this type of circumstance, great for others though.
I usually camp on my travels but as far as I,m aware there are not any campsites in Central London ( except the protest type ).. or am I ( as often ) wrong ?

I was passing Thomas Cook today and saw a 2 night break B&B in London c/w rail travel for £85. Asked the lady about the offer and it turned out to be the County. I remembered your post and booked there and then for 22nd Sept. Just have to book my bike on the train and thats it done.
