Hi bit of advice need from the londonites please

I'll be on a Boris ride sunday afternoon as I'll be in the capital and want to know which would be better to cycle over (both ways) from a safety POV, Southwark Bridge or London Bridge?

Cheers!

From the south I'd rather go over London Bridge. I guess it boils down to where you are and where you are trying to get to

On a sunday afternoon, they should both be ok. The junctions at either end of both bridges are the most tricky part.

The city is quite quiet at the weekend.

The only thing with London Bridge is that it has that 'get in the right lane' thing going on if you are travelling north. Also, is Borough High St still closed off? Might make it a bit inconvenient.

Either one is fine really - whichever is best for where you want to get to.

London bridge it is then cheers, has picked up some chatter on here about Blackfriars being poor so thought best avoided?

Its a 10 min cycle or a 30 min walk the journey, its literally work>hotel>work so not bothered about sightseeing etc

Cheers ! :thumbsup::biggrin:

Borough High Street is still closed southbound. Northbound is ok.

Isn't southwark bridge the one that CS7 goes over?

Yes.

It's also segregated on the bridge, but has bus stops at either end of the segregated bit, which can be tricky.

gawd, not the bridges again, I know this will sound sniffy but anyone that can 't ride a bridge safely shouldn't ride in London, I honestly don't know what the fuss is about

Well, fwiw i'm a Southwark Bridge man - if only because London Bridge is a pain in the harris to get onto from Lower Thames street. The width of Southwark bridge also seems to put off cars and motorcycles from racing over it, which is the norm on London Bridge. None of those erratic tourist buses, either.

Yes it does sound sniffy but dont worry I'm not offended, cant say I can see any fuss in the posts above until 'Capt London' (thats you ) turns up to save me from the dangerous bridges, lawks

In all seriousness I asked because I wanted the benefit of your experience as I'd read this thread about one bridge (https://www.cyclechat.net/), and decided seeing as I'm here I might as well ask

I did give you my opinion, I do London Bridge every day from both sides but I also Boris Bike Waterloo, Black Friars, Southwark and now and then Tower

If you're competent to read the road and ride acordingly then they're all fine, and if you aren't them there's going to be a lot more issues coming up real soon at junctions and one ways all over London

Agreed to Captain London  but London is a whole lot more demanding than pretty much every where else barring the odd bit of one way

Thoroughly enjoyed my little ride but really nothing more than a hop TBH and apart from getting slightly lost and riding my Boris up to the Tower of London in error nothing went wrong.

Quite like the Boris, mine seemed to have knackered gears but goes fast enough if you put your legs down. Next time working in london think I'll arrange with train company to bring my chariot down with me so I can go out and about at bit.

24hr pass should still be valid for tomorrow so going to give rush hour a go, tin hats on and over the top we go
