Apologies if this is elsewhere just off St James Park , Duke of York steps !
I did post it in the campaigning section, but it got little views and no replies. Probably better off here.

Not entirely sure I agree with he proposed scheme (as pictured) as it seems to funnel all motorised traffic up the Victoria Road, which will prove chaotic for cars wanting to reach the mall or birdcage walk. but I do agree with the commitment to raise awareness to MP's who seem...in the most...clueless about cycling in cities.

Also...is parliament square really that dangerous?...I've only ever seen one incident (the same one that was filmed by the driod)...it all seems pretty calm and straightforward to me most mornings...personally I find the embankment a far more dangerous road to ride...its just wide enough to NOT allow two vehicles whilst simultaneously being just wide enough to tempt many into testing this theory... Its also far, far too fast in sections (Millbank...Battersea bridge)

Parliament Sq is perhaps not as dangerous as other junctions however is a world heritage site with fine views however it would like being sat in a race track with traffic constantly circling you imagine how almost serene it would be with traffic halved. Perhaps it would be a nice place to picnic, have a wine etc instead its home to protesters a shambles really.

Am going to protest , its a show of soladarity more than anything , more bikes, more pressure, more discussion in media etc

Oh, I shall be there..but I just don't agree on the scheme.Trafalgar Sq had a similar change but you can still get to the same point (via a safer quieter route) that you could before the scheme. It was a no brainier as the section of road that they paved was pretty mush useless anyway. Whereas this scheme seems to make whole sections of St James unapproachable by car, bus or motorbike.

Perhaps if they paved the North section (end of Great George Street), but left the West as a vehicular road, that would help.

PS, traffic wouldn't be halved, nor serene...it would just be stationary, revving and beeping in fewer roads, while it crawled around the square. You don't reduce traffic with this type of scheme, you just move it elsewhere. Agreed that, this can deter a few drivers, but not a significant amount that "Have" to be there.

Sorry, I'm hijacking the thread.

I'll be there..good to show support and all that.

Will be there - as has been echoed previously, I'm not in support of all the elements of the campaign, especially the segregationist hijacking but am there for solidarity and for the 'numbers effect'.

lets hope there's more than the 3 of us though, else we'll have to keep moving about a lot to fill the space!
