London Gutters (Warning London Centric thread)

So the streets may not actually be paved with gold (who knew?) but you could eat your bacon and eggs off the gutters in London these days.

Am I the only one who is heartily impressed with the sterling job the road sweepers are doing at cleaning the edge of the roads in London. The gutters are pristine, no leaves, no twigs, no glass.

Every single morning

When you consider that everything gets swept into the gutter (including us riders if many drivers had their wishes) it must be a mammoth task to keep them this clean each morning.

I have a vision of an army of gutter basher's scouring the roads like piste bashers in the Alps, working through the night to clean, prime and pimp the gutters...only to have to start all over the next evening.

Clapham must have a better class of jakey as many of the broken bottles in the gutter of a weekend tend to be Leffe or Blue Moon or Magners. The man that sweeps along Wandsworth Road every morning does a brilliant job and is always smiley and says hello.

Just for some balance in this thread, the gutters Up Norf' are always full of crap, both figuratively and sometimes literally.

I think it depends on the Borough. The gutters in Kensington and Chelsea are amazingly clean because there is a whole army of hi-tech sweeper gizmos about. Maybe the locals chuck less litter about, I don't know.

The gutters of Lewisham are usually full of crap. And the roads are terrible.
