I think so.
The gutters of Lewisham are usually full of crap. And the roads are terrible.
It varies from brough to (Royal) Brough.

The gutters of Lewisham maybe full of crap, but given the area the streets are fairly clean, Royal Greenwich next door is the other way around.

having said which, by say the standards of Paris, Berlin, or Amsterdam our streets are filthy, but better than Lagos.

Well they certainly aren't like that on cricklewood broadway. The street cleaners sweep all the cr*p from the pavement right onto the road and the cycle route.

The guy gave me a puzzled look when I shouted at him "thanks a bloody lot mate" or words to that effect

Don't know what the Barnet gutters are like nowadays, but the ones around Whetstone were pretty damn clean just over 40 years ago.

'Cos I used to sweep them! I had a job as a "street orderly" for a few months before Uni, and really worked hard at it. The only time I left broken glass was when I had to go and get some first aid after a car passenger threw a bottle at me, and it hit the ground about ten feet in front of me, showering me with fast-moving splinters. Lucky to keep two working eyes that time.

( Another risk of going blind was from the rather exotic porn mags which some rich commuter kept leaving in one or other of the litter bins near Totteridge Lane tube station).
