On Tuesday I'm hopping off the train with my bike at Paddington and either cycling or taking the Elizabeth line to Liverpool Street station.

Any of you London cyclists have any advice, ideas or guidance for me?

I can find a cycling route but have no idea if it's easy or terrible.

Have a look at TFL journey planner, they have slow, medium, fast routes

Or take the Betty line assuming not peak rush hour

Google maps tell me it's half hour on the bike via three routes. Rush hour might be a bit hectic but if you want to use the Elizabeth Line it's only after 9:30.

Assuming it's not a folding bike: You are not permitted to take bikes on the Elizabeth Line between Paddington and Liverpool St. during rush hour, but they are allowed outside of rush hour. This is the core section which is effectively a deep tube train and bikes aren't allowed.
Edited for correctness

Elizabeth line

Non-folded cycles are allowed Monday to Friday:
  • Arriving at Liverpool Street (from the east) before 07:30 and after 09:30
  • Leaving Liverpool Street (eastbound) before 16:00 and after 19:00
  • Arriving at London Paddington (from the west) before 07:45 and after 09:45
  • Leaving London Paddington (westbound) 16:30 and after 19:00
  • Between Paddington and Abbey Wood before 07:30, 09:30-16:00 and after 19:00
Weekends and bank holidays: Anytime
You cannot take non-folded cycles onto the Tube at some Elizabeth line stations:
  • Tottenham Court Road
  • Bond Street (opening on 24 October 2022, subject to final safety approvals)
  • Paddington - onto the Bakerloo line
  • Liverpool Street - onto the Central and Northern lines
  • Stratford - onto the Central line

Doesn’t this bit mean you can at certain times?

That's interesting. It would appear on the face of it that you can. But everything I've read about it said that the deep core section was no-go for bikes. <- Edit: I was wrong about this. Bikes are permitted outside of rush hours.

But anyway, the Hammersmith and City line Paddington-L'pool St is fine outside rush hours (M-F 7:30-9:30 and 16:00-19:00)

I thought that changed when it actually opened

the moderate route on vicksters link is decent cycling, mainly dedicated lanes or quiet roads and easy to navigate and will be more pleasant than the more direct alternative.

Back to the OP - Depends on the time of day and the weather.

Unless it's a Sunday, or unreasonably early, I'd avoid the tube/Elizabeth line anyway as it will be a pain taking your bike through the stations if it's even moderately busy. But if it's bucketing down, and outside of rush hour, then I'd revisit that decision.

I can't really advise on a route as I don't cycle in the centre of London normally. Just give yourself plenty of time, and add a bit more.
