Maybe I'm reading too much into it but the French side looks fairly direct whereas the UK side wonders all over the place!

That's because over here it uses the NCN which always wanders and is no good as a route for people traveling somewhere, they are leisure routes, whereas France takes cycle travel seriously. I used to be involved in Sustrans but became disillusioned by the routes adding miles to journeys, often doubling them. Despite their claims, like all organisations in the U.K. they do not take cycling seriously. Sorry for the rant.

Other than the UK side being poo, it looks like a great project, the French side would be good.

whereever it goes in england it will be poo! england is poo for cycling. however, last year my london to paris 1st day was down to Newhaven and across to Dieppe and then we took the "indirect" route to get to paris (so it was over 300 miles). the ride from london to newhaven was ok, you have to go off the main route to get safe roads so that's prob why it goes all over the place. and that side of France is gorgeous and i think this is a wicked idea. it means people won't have to worry about planning their own routes if they want to do a good ride with friends.

Avenue Verte (the Dieppe to Forges les Eaux) is lovely. Have ridden it a few times now, as part of a London to Paris trip as well as various tours of no particular destination. Is flat, smooth, pleasanly green, and has the perennial winner of cycling through disused railway stations.
