Hi,

It seems this is the time of year when people make their plans for 2017 - physical challenges, holidays, trips away... all that good stuff.

Well the good news is that we are again organising a London to Paris ride in July this year. Last year's ride was a great success - 13 riders covering 5000km between us on beautiful roads in great weather and not a single puncture!

The ride is a fairly social ride, fully supported and aimed more at fun rather than racing. It has a few challenging climbs on Day 1 but plenty of beautiful roads to cover through the South Downs and Normandy.

Our 2017 route is bound to be equally as stunning as 2016 in terms of scenery but with a new route that is a bit longer and a touch more challenging on Days 1 and 2. Hopefully the weather is equally as fantastic too!

Day 1 - Thursday July 20th (London to Portsmouth, 177 km, 2000m climbing ) will take in Box Hill, Leith Hill and Bexley Hill as we go down through the South Downs to Portsmouth before we take the overnight ferry across the Channel (sleeping berths are booked and confirmed).

Day 2 - Friday July 21st (Caen to Rouen, 140 km, 1000m climbing) will start as we disembark from the ferry in Caen and head along the coastal route north towards the Seine, before following the river west to Rouen. Group dinner in Rouen (included).

Day 3 - Saturday July 22nd - will be a repeat of the 2016 route from Rouen to Paris (133 km, 1500m climbing). This route takes in some fantastic Normandy countryside before entering Paris from the West and finishing at the Eifel Tower.

We have a number of returning riders but are happy to open the ride to anyone who wants to join us - and a few new faces keeps it interesting. total group is likely to be around 20-25 and at present we have about 6 or 8 spaces available. All costs of the ride are shared between the riders and the more people we have on the ride helps us lower the overall costs such as for the support van(s). The ferry is booked and so are the hotels.

Cost is estimated to be £550 per person and includes overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen (and accom on the boat), 4 star accommodation for 1 night in Rouen and 2 nights in Paris. We will have support crew in vehicles to take our luggage and will provide breakfasts and lunches on the ride. You will only need money for evening meals (except for the group meal in Rouen on the Friday night) and your beer money (plus your sightseeing in Paris on Sunday). Return travel from Paris for you and your bike is left for you to organise. The ride is totally not-for profit - any excess money raised will go to support our charity, The Calvert Trust - Exmoor.

To confirm your place, we ask for payment of a non-refundable £250 deposit by the end of January. The deposit is to help us cover the initial outlay for bookings. The ferry company and hotels all require final full payment up front 90 days out from the trip, so the next amount of £300 will be due by the end of April. Other than that you will only need money for your evening meals and a few beers..

If you want to know more about who we are, visit zoo2zoo.com. Please reply to euro@zoo2zoo.com to confirm your interest and we will send you the details for how to pay.

As always, we are happy to hear from people willing to volunteer for support crew.

All the best for a very Happy New Year,

Eric
