I will be riding with a group of keen cyclists in July 2011 to Paris from London. We are all riding to Paris for three children charities. I have ridden to Paris a couple of times before however I am trying to improve the entry approach into Paris as I keep getting stuck crossing very large motor ways.

Can anyone give me a suggested route?

If anyone would like to see the route I take goto www.25000spins.com

Its an awesome trip if any of you wish to sign up.

I seem to remember some discussions in the past where people suggested going down the Canal d'Ourq towards the Place de Bastille.PS it might be a good idea to give your thread a title that is more relevant to your question - eg "London-Pars - Best route into Paris?"

I'm afraid I don't have a map but you could try here:

http://www.canalsofparis.com/

The canal is clearly visible on Google maps etc.

But I'm only going from hazy memories of discussions - there may be better options for all I know.

My other suggestion would be to use the route calculator option on Viamichelin.com:

http://www.viamichelin.com/web/Routes

This has a cycle option and will give you directions and distances from A-B. Obviously worth double-checking the results but it could help you if you've come to a dead end.

In theory you can edit your post by clicking on it. But that mwy not work if someone has already posted a reply. But lots of things seem to have gone all weird since they started messing with the stylesheets.

We did the Canal d'orcq route into Paris in May.

We were riding with 2 young children so avoided as many busy roads as possible ( apart from champs elysee of course.)

The route was excellent from Dieppe, avenue verte via Chantilly, skirting CDG airport.

It enters Paris to the east which is totally different from your previous route, but we enjoyed it.

It wasn't hard riding, our children managed fine on their rubbish mountain bikes, but a real sense of achievement.

If you need any more details just let me know.

Cheers, Neil

Hi Neil

Further details about the route you took from Dieppe would be great. I have always entered into Paris from the South West but have found I need to cross some very large roads.

Thanks

Craig

The above hopefully covers most of it.

The total mileage is inaccurate as we stopped half way through for a few days camping and I'd forgotten to stop the milometer on my bike!

If you need any other help, just pm me.

I recieved incredibly helpful advice on here and am only to happy to pass on my very limited knowledge.

We aren't cyclists (as the pix testify) but had great fun.

You're not cyclists??!!! I think there are alot of people who consider themselves as cyclists who might be very envious of what you and your family did there. Bravo.

Merci raindog!

More will-power than pedal-power in our household.

A great family experience and something I'm sure the children will look back on with a sense of pride in years to come.

Thanks Oldbloke, I'd like to say it was nothing, but my backside would disagree!

We loved it - the roads were so quiet and the French so friendly.
