Hi there,

I am planning a 10-12 day cycle trip from London to Rome for charity. I have done Lands End to Jon O Groats in 7 days so know a bit about what i'm in for.

I was wondering if anybody had any advice for cycling in Europe. Ideally if anybody has a route they have done before? Or know of a good website for working out a route that would be great.

Any other advice would be greatly apreciated!

Thanks,

Freddie

Try cycling on the right hand side!

I've only browsed through this site before, but it should offer some help.

Welcome to the forum, BTW!

There is an Audax "permanent" route Calais-Brindisi. I realise that Brindisi isnt near Rome, but it might give you a good idea of how to get to central Italy if you investigate.

The Italian equivalent of "B" roads or lesser A roads make for good cycling. You probably want to minimise time cycling in the bigger cities if you value your sanity, but otherwise the place is pretty OK and drivers generally good with cyclists - though some have a nasty habit of overtaking as they go past you on the opposite side
