The wife and I will be visiting London next month to see The Lion King at the Lyceum theatre. I'm looking for some digs for the night but have no idea where to start!

Any recommendations?

You don't have to stay in the West End, the tube will get you out of there in no time. The simple advice is match your budget to what Tripadvisor offers.

It depends what you want.

Travelodge and Premier Inn have a good spread of affordable rooms and like the Velvet Curtain says - you can use the tube to get to and fro.

I use one or the other when I stay overnight.

Haven't really set a budget if I'm honest...that's the issue I think
That's the thing, is it just a theatre trip or is it a celibration where the meal, the stuff to do in the afternoon before hand and the morning after are important. Do you want Champagne and chocolates on the pillow? Or just somewhere that doesn't have stains on the pillow?

Yer it's a bit special so don't mind spending more for an experience. I'm tempted by the Shard but I think she'd rather spend the extra money in the shops!

Don't ask a Londoner, they don't stay in London hotels:biggrin:.
There are numerous websites, it's just a case of wading through them all until you find a place at a location and price that suits.
In no particular order
lastminute.com
hotels.com
booking.com
trivago.co.uk
hoteldirect.co.uk
If you can cope with the tension of not knowing the precise location of where you will stay until after you have booked, Last minute has a "Top secret" deal which has provided me with some luxurious accommodation at a very reasonable price in the past.

Not sure where to recommend, but to help you narrow things down a little, don't stay at this one:

Well that makes it difficult, basically what ever is likely to make her smile. There are so many options. I know a few people who have stayed at the Shard and none have been let down. Take her to Harrods and buy half a dozen chocolates from the food hall, grab some sushi from the shop across the road, a bottle of fizz and some plastic tumblers and have a picnic in Hyde Park by the Serpentine.

My best advice though is what ever you decide to do, is visit google earth and street view and work out where you need to be. In my experience the sexiest thing women find a man can do is work out where the feck he is going in Larndun.

I've stayed in the Bridge Hotel in Greenford a few times, and it's quite decent. Within walking distance of the Central Line*, and can be quite cheap at the weekends.

* Greenford station used to be the only station where you could get an escalator up to the trains, but this has been replaced by the tube's only inclined lift. As it's a romantic trip, you need to tell MrsB these facts.

The Savoy hotel is a short walk from Covent Garden and is an absolutely beautiful hotel, if your thinking of the Shard it is within budget

The shard will set you back £500 per night.
I stayed there for my wife's 40 birthday. I was nice but not worth the money. I am not sure if anything would be worth it.
