I'm not sure we should be encouraging that sort of thinking - next thing you know someone'll be telling me it's not the bike's fault I'm slow up hills!

Seriously though, I suspect that the sheer levels of muppetry (from both those crossing, and those on the road) means that London crossings have to be really well designed.

"This strongly suggests that any problem with London's pedestrian crossings has to lie with their users rather than their design."

WTF?

More blame-the-victim bullsh!t.

Yes, but with european law the traffic actually stops before you get anywhere near the crossing

except in france, spain and italy (for starters). if you're lucky they may stop once you're well onto the crossing. wouldn't bank on it though

Never quite understand the purpose of crossings in France. No-one seems to stop for you so I guess they are just suggestions about where you might want to cross.

As for King's comments, well that is just the usual claptrap you expect from this dope. This is the guy who always squeals when there are new proposals to stomp down on dangerous driving.

I hate those crossings where there's no green man opposite.

You spend a while wondering what's going on then you find it at the button.

Apparently it's supposed to make you look in the direction of the traffic but round my way the button is so low you look into the gutter or the the buttons on the wrong side so you look in the opposite direction of traffic!

They do have those sensors that ensure it stays green man while you're on the crossing. Why couldn't they have added the sensors to the old style crossing rather than spending loads of money replacing them?
