I noticed a bike with a good DLOCK which was positioned awkwardly (to get to) but her wire was hanging there like a skipping rope.

I have not used one of these yet but i will be trying them out this week, has anyone used a 4ft lead and wrapped their bike frame and the stand until it was snug / harder to get to with bolt cutters? (maybe around the break/gear wire so they risk cutting that which might cause them a problem on resale on the streets)

Yeah they can get to it if they want and it is all about giving more time and making it harder to steal. or is the 4ft cable at the awkward size of too much and not enough to wrap around with?

I use an Abus D lock with a 4 foot cable with large pad lock, D lock on top bar and cable through both wheels, as they say so far so good

I use a D lock to lock the rear wheel and frame to something solid, and thread a cable loop thingy through the lock and the front wheel. A four foot loop is long enough to do that.

Edit: I was just scalped by numbnuts:rolleyes:

I got a Kryptonite D_lock with 4ft cable for a trip into Leeds in Oct, put D-lock around frame and rear wheel a cable through the front wheel and lock attached to railings in front of the entrance where people were coming and going and in view of reception. It is the only time i have had to resort to such a lock, as usually the bike is never left for more than 15-20mins with my cable lock.

Yep same here, but i fold the dahon and wrap the wire through both wheels. This keeps the cree T6 hidden and not easily removable.

I had a bike stolen within 15 minutes when secured with a cable lock, on an extremely busy Lonon street on a Sunday afternoon  Lesson learnt, D lock only for me, often 2

I understand, but I am not carrying a D:Lock into Pontefract just to nip into the chemist or Wilkinson ect, If I go into Leeds or I cant secure it safe then yes I will use the D:Lock, besides remember its a Viking with old Sora shifters, the only thing that gives it away are maybe the RS10 wheels.

Is it insured or would you be able to replace if stolen? Mine was insured and covered as was locked, even if the lock was pants (cut straight through)

I have an Abus Granit D lock on the rear triangle/wheel and an Abus chain-o-steel on the front wheel/frame. I'm a bit paranoid!

Make sure you keep all the receipts for all the parts safe
I have receipts for a lenses I bought in 1989, besides as most major purchases have been made by debit card, a bank statement would be enough to prove purchase, this could be cross referenced with the company the purchase was made from, the problem would be the current gatorskins which I got from Halfords at £13.59 each.

Yes I have a Kryptonite and a thick cable (made by someone else)
As previous bike was stolen I had to feel reasonably secure
If possible put bike in front of CCTV camera- the police told me that after first one was nicked

I don't normally leave my bike for a long time, If I am moving from shop to shop I normally return to my bike quickly and move it to a closer place to lock it or keep it in sight, if it will be out of sight I try to be quick as possible. I do my best to make the locks awkward to get at and yes infront of CCTV if possible. Yet again that does not really stop a criminal if his/her attitude is F*** the Police.

Thanks for the info guys, I don't live in central london so the chance is lower (apparently) but there is always a chance of losing it.
