He has put some good details about the bike, so he probably knows what he is talking about, best to check up the prices on the parts he lists. It's also worth a note that although he has 62 good response's from ebay users, only once has he sold something online!

It just seems too good to be true, and you know what they say about something that's too good to be true...It generally is.

As you say only one item sold.

No reserve either.

what is wrong with it, apart from the camera unable to focus? £ 400 but still 3 days to go so.

if in doubt, pay on collection although in theory paypal should protect you.

Alarm bells not ringing loud enough? accountantpete has turned up another bike from the same seller.
I am deeply mistrusting of eBay sellers who opt for the 'hide bidders details' option.

You got a brand new virtually 3k bike and you put it on eBay with no reserve, you have apparently got to sell it due to change in your financial circs.

Clearly the bike has never been ridden, why not? who buys a three grand bike if they think their finances are not suffciently robust to be able to deal with such a 'considered purchase' in the event that it all goes horribly wrong.

There again, perhaps I'm too cynical?

Ask whether he has the receipts - for warranty reasons.

Oh, and all-friendly-like, ask him what tris he has done, is he in a club, what's his favourite distance. Should be able to tell you a story.

If not, walk away.

In fact, I just have:

"Hello mate

Nice bike. Have you still got receipts, warranty documents etc for it? And where did you buy it? I'd love to have a bid, but I want to know what warranty there is with it before bidding.

Cheers

Oscar"

As my ebay ID is triathleteoscar, that should flush him out.

His reply

"Hi, I have personally built this bike myself and as such i dont have individual components receipts. On a side note, as far as i know the warranty would not be valid unless the bike is purchased from the dealer. Kind Regards"

Doesn't really prove anything, and he's quite right that warranties are generally not transferable.

I've seen some seriously dodgy stuff on ebay (I recently managed to get a guy his stolen bike back by alerting him to it on ebay - the police actually knocked the thief's door in and nicked him) and this doesn't necessarily look like a scam. If it is one however my guess is that it's a case of hijacked account. That would explain why someone who's never sold before is suddenly selling such high value items.

That's so dodgy- surely if it's self built then you'd have the receipts for each item.

Sounds stolen to me...
