After completing my first half-century at the weekend, I decided it was time to get some proper shoes and pedals for the roadie (currently using Shimano 520 pedals and SPDs in MTB shoes).
I gave this a lot of consideration and spoke with a good local bike shop to help me decide. What I opted for is a Specialized BG Comp shoe and Look Keo 2 Max pedals. To be honest, I originally chose the Look Keo Easy pedal - but that decision was derided by a lot of my so called 'friends'. Bowing to peer pressure (and I'm not proud of that) I returned them and ordered a set of 2 Maxs.
The pedals arrived this morning and I must admit that they look a look (no pun intended) a lot better than the Easy pedals I originally chose. However, one thing has concerned me, the manual states that these pedals are 'optimised' for riders under 100 KG. My weight is currently about 10 Kilos over that.
So, my question (and, sorry if this is a bit of a daft one) is.......will the 10% (ish) excess rider weight make a difference?
I'm guessing that the manual is just doing the corporate posterior covering thing and that they probably engineer in a degree of tolerance in any case. I'm just a bit OCD when it comes to cycling and safety and in my head, I've got images of them snapping off whilst I'm standing on them to climb a big hill!!!
As I say, sorry if it seems like a daft question but, as always, any words of wisdom from those with more experience will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Ian.
