A new bike should be able to cope with a winter,I'd just have cleaned them and dried and then sprayed the mech with a bit of GT85, obviously avoiding the pads.
If your wanting a 2nd bike thats fair enough and keep your other for best, but it will be able to cope.Have you got full mudguards etc on it?
I did all that and it still ended up in a trip to the lbs for a repair. There was a thread about it and despite similar advice, the conditions, the weather, how and where it was stored all day, and the thick layer of road salt all conspired against me. I thought a good second hand bike was a good compromise.
Nothing stranger than folk. I went down to the local bike shop this morning to pick up a few bits and pieces for my trip tomorrow and bought a Cannondale Synapse for no other reason than as soon as I threw my leg over it, I wanted it. Not exactly sure of what bike will do what yet, but looking forward to picking her up Monday.
