If I recall correctly, the police typically don't take much interest unless injuries have occurred. Make sure the injured party makes his injuries very clear in any communication with the police.
The police incident/log number may well be required if the driver disputes that there was a collision. Any action they take against the driver will also be noted by his insurance company. The fact that the driver left, without leaving details, may suggest that there's something they don't want known.I believe the insurance compensation claim will be more important to the injured cyclist than the severity of police action taken against the driver. It is important for the compensation case that the driver receives a penalty for his bad driving in order for the defendants (ie the insurance company) to admit liability though.

Yes, Julie texted the advice from here so hopefully he's done that.Nice to know he's okay.
Does he know to get pictures of any injury and bruising?
Aye, that seemed like guilty behaviour to me too.The very fact he had left the scene without exchanging details, even though there was damage to his car, pretty much confirms who is at fault, and it is an offence to leave the scene without giving details.
I'd have been onto his mobile phone company. Data protection wouldn't have helped him there. When I got hit the driver asked if I was okay gave me a mobile number and drove off, I was very shaken up and bleeding.
I had witnesses but no-one got the plate, this was pre camera.
The driver later refused to answer the mobile phone again after the 1st time where I called and said whom I was and he hung up immediately.
The police said it was not a serious enough incident and would not chase the mobile number so had no lines of inquiry and it went no-where.
Luckily my bike was fine.
Hmmm, interesting. Maybe with a reg number they'll be more likely to do something about this one. (Again, if that's the route the 'victim' chooses to take.) My partner got another text from the lad today - I say lad, I mean he's a young man - saying although no broken bones he is in a cast so clearly some significant injury. It's still not clear whether he's contacted the police etc but I hope so and hope to get the chance to pass on advice in more detail..When I got hit the driver asked if I was okay gave me a mobile number and drove off, I was very shaken up and bleeding.
