Hi everyone, newbie here, both recumbent and this forum!

A couple of weeks ago I got a Challenge Mistral with what looks like a challenge original rack. Once I get a bit more confident I'm planning on using it as a commute bike, and need to carry laptop/change of clothes over a hilly (Devon up flats) 5 miles.

It looks to me like it will need either special panniers, it some sort of bracket to stop the panniers hitting the rear wheel. How has everyone got around the issue? Or am I wrong and the panniers will fit fine?

Thanks for any help or ideas.

Hi, congrats on your new bike, don't forget the photos  There were various racks and extensions, in order of date of introduction (and perhaps reliability) AFAICT:

While the brochure rates the bike for 25kg baggage the aluminium day rack (photos 1 to 3) is rated at 12kg. I don't have the name or rating for the 4th photo but WLT hear from whoever does. For heavier loads they recommend banana bags and similar that fit over or across the seat. I've a set from Azub that I won't be using so I've dropped you a PM.

This is mine taken just after I got it, no real changes yet. Getting better but still learning especially how to get through the cycle chicanes.

Oops, the latest (c. 2012) rating was only 18kg baggage and 8kg for the day rack. Not sure which style that applies to or whether it's for both with hindsight!
