OTH- if governments actually tackled the causation of a problem, we might have some solutions rather than punitive measures designed to look like they're doing something. Besides, tackling the culture of speeding would need to address the increase in our pace of life and attitudes with car users. These things don't happen overnight hence government won't touch with a barge pole especially since it may not win them votes...

I've just looked at the poster... I was expecting it to be showing a child on a bike (i.e can't have a car) but it doesn't, it shows them holding a play camera... errrrm, I don't get it.

Can someone explan why losing you license due to being caught speeding by a camera leads you to play with a toy camera, please?

I think it would make more sense if it was a kid being pushed around in a buggy, to get the transport point across. I don't know how much impact it'll have on a driver - if you don't 'get it' then most of them won't....

I understand the concept... it was just the actual pictures being used that seemed rather bizarre. Speed camera in one, kid using play camera in the next... rather than anything to do with said child getting around whilst not being able to drive (hence I was expecting a piccie of a kid on a bike, which was why I thought the OP was mentioning it).

Well that's what I mean by not getting it - you understand the implication, but those dimmer than you (and I suspect that's many) might not even get that far....

 Since when did TfL become 'the government':?:

1. As I understand it they are accountable to the Mayor of London. The are not a private company so are in the public sector. Broadly Government - well in the way that the local council are government. Government is not limited to No 10 and Westminster.
2. www.tfl.gov/ is an indication.

They (they being various bodies ultimately answerable to the electorate in some way) seem to adopt this approach. TV Licence - threats, car tax - threats, tax return - threat. The list goes on.

Contrast that with private sector adverts - they are rarely negative. Bupa could say "look how bad the NHS is" but no: they say "look how nice we are".

I do feel I am being harassed by them.
