One thing I've learned over the past 3 years, lots of people have loads of issues and they don't always manifest themselves the way you'd expect or even affect the people you would expect. Just because someone is a bit different, even though it's very annoying, doesn't make them an axe murderer.

Of course, he could be, in which case, I would lock all the doors and switch out all the lights and hope nobody notices you.
Kept that in a bag going to work.

I'm glad I've seen this thread as I'm in a similar situation.

I've just started a new job and I'm really nervous, they've put me with this bloke who seems like a really nice guy so I've made an extra special effort to try and make conversation with him, but all he does is blank me.

I've asked him about everything from pets to holidays, but he shows no interest, how can I get him to like me?

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

If I was the OP, I'd definitely think you are weird... I wouldn't talk to you at all.

I have a colleague, that when you tell him to do something, he goes round window shopping for opinions. Now, I'm quite senior to him, and we get on, he is lots older, very old fashioned, but if I say 'do it', it's on my head (financial) and I've checked everything. Nope, he asks others. He has done it to other folk. Unfortunately for him, the patience for this behaviour is getting very thin these days (public sector) as most of us aren't from that background.

We also have support departments that say, 'that's not in our job description' - WTF. Some right crazy shoot goes on in Universities...

Tell him that you are fond of spongy things, because you aren't allowed anything sharp. :okay:

Might he have some sort of genuine issue? Someone in my team is (medically undiagnosed as yet) autistic/aspergic and he never stops. I spend half of my time either trying to answer impossible and unintelligible questions, listening to epic sagas with no ending or his latest disaster that's happened due to his condition as he doesn't quite function as the rest of us do. A lot of the time I have to do some work to put these right (they happen away from work where he doesn't have structure or help)

I feel your pain as it can erode your head.

There are days I could string him up, but most days I wouldn't swap him for anything. He is a great worker.

But genuinely, just try and tease some info out of him and see what you think, he may have an issue or two.

Funnily enough, that was one of my first thoughts when I read the OP.

I have read up a lot about autism in the past and have also worked with autists, so, yes, he might be, but none of us have met him save for the OP..... Basically, you have to take each person as you find them, some will have problems, but others will just be annoying, and you need to find out/get the jist of someone if it isn't immediately obvious to you.

I hate people who ask endless pointless questions. Just drown him out with music:okay:
