You get on that bike, SGB! The Commuting section is like the 'Fox News' of CycleChat - full of shouty paranoia and fractious persecution complexes...............

.................and that's just Crankarm

Joking aside, the stories you get on here are generally skewed towards the kack-end of the cycling experience. Statistically you're safer, happier etc etc.....

Yep definitely get on the bike. As someone who posts about some of the idiots out there, there are far more days when nothing at all happens. Today for example I just got wet. No dramas, nothing.

As to the OP and a camera, I've found that having one has calmed me down quite a lot. I'm much less likely to start an argument with a driver, just smile knowingly and point at the camera. Can't remember the last time I squared up to a driver. Ah the happy days......

The problem is that if you spend your time getting cross with these ****nuts it ruins your whole ride. I try not to, although I'm not immune.

I do wish people would realise just how non-trivial driving a car is, and try to take a little pride in doing it well.

Well todays commute went well. Rode the 13 miles to Leeds, most of which is on the Leeds-Liverpool canal, with no problems, and rode 8 miles back. I got a lift back up the hills to home from the canal - I don't have the fitness to even attempt that just yet. Fortunately it was dry both ways and a good temperature to keep cool. Will be cycling tomorrow and four days next week so we shall see how I get on.

PS sorry for hijacking the thread upsidedown

Never got into a particularly heated argument on the road, it's just too dangerous to try and fight back against people when they have control of a massive and dangerous machine, that being said there was one time when I was coming back from a 30 mile bike ride and some people in a van thought it would be funny to spit at me and got me right in the face. Then probably five minutes later some guy decided he would overtake me and the immediately turn left and slow down giving me probably a metre distance between my front wheel and his rear end. What followed was probably the most aggressive I have ever been by me shouting a few swear words and calling him a 'f*cking idiot' and 'wtf is wrong with you?' at the top of my voice into his open window, the look on his face was priceless, I don't think he realised that I would actually fight back in any way.

and sorry if this makes no sense or is in the wrong place but it's my first time on the forums

I had that done to me. I was so angry about it that I abandoned the ride because I no longer felt in control of myself.

Had a couple in the shittiest Nissan Micra ever cut me up, force me close to the kerb and generally try to bully me off the road. At the next red light I pull alongside and, through the open passenger window ask just what the hell he (the driver) is trying to achieve. She(passenger) says ''There's a bike path over there.''
''And'' says I
''Why don't you use it?'' says she
''It doesn't lead where I need to go. Do you think I WANT to share the road with people like you?'' I retort
''Well you should be on it.'' she argues
''Close your legs love; your meat smells.''
''......''
''What's that? Can't hear you.'' says I

The lights turn green and Boyfriend is still asking her what I said.........

''Laters!''

Cue the music........................
