Lost my wedding ring a couple of times over the years but always managed to find it so far.
One occasion was after a 4x4 camping weekend. Got home on Sunday night to find it was missing and had definitely been on around breakfast time as I had removed it and refitted it after fixing somebodies car. Went back through all the things I had done that day while we packed up camp in that muddy farmers field, took the tent down, scraped the mud off the Jeep (by hand), dug a hole to empty the latrine into...... The possibilities were endless.
I drove back to the site on the Monday, a round trip of about 100 miles in a 4ltr auto Jeep ££££££, a bit of an expensive fools errand that would waste a day and would surely prove fruitless. Had to take my toddler with me and as we walked around the spot where we had been camped he started whining to be put down for a run around. I put him down and told him to stand still while I grabbed his wellies, as I stood up again to return to the car for the wellies I noticed something glimmering in the mud at his feet.....
I didn't have to dig out the latrine or even get chance to use the cheap metal detector I had borrowed from a friend of a friend.
Much more recently, just a couple of weeks ago, I took the boys to a bouncy castle play session at one of the local swimming pools. When I slid of the end of the bouncy assault course I immediately felt something was missing even though I hadn't felt it go....... I was helpless, no glasses or contact lenses, I vainly scanned the pool floor at the end of the slide for a glimmer of gold. 30 seconds later a young lad slid down after me and said "ere, mister. ave you lost this?"
I could've hugged him if there weren't laws against such things, What an honest, decent young lad. He could easily have pocketed it and I would never have known, it's a big old lump of gold and weighs heavy in your palm.
I even nearly threw it on the civic tip once. I was emptying rubbish out of my work van and throwing stuff on the pile when I felt the ring slip off my finger. This time I leaned out of the back of the van and caught it before it hit the ground.
I don't know why but my hands seem to change size continuously depending on weather, temperature and activities. Sometimes I have to use soapy water to get it off while other times it will almost fall off if I let my hand hang down. It has no relation to my weight? Now I often leave my rings at home if I am going away for the weekend and my hands feel slightly skinny.
