I'll take a 10% chance of being rear ended by a cyclist because I stopped over a 10% chance of riding in to a taxi (that has just demonstrated shite driving by committing two apparently blatant traffic violations simultaneously, so therefore has a driver that probably wants to kill me anyway), with the associated 10% chance of ending up underneath said taxi, anyday.

Someone will tell me they have a bell next ! And mirrors
Wouldn't be without my mirror, means I can keep a check on Colinj without having to keep turning round
I actually thought about getting an Airzound, decided not to in the end, but there are occasions that I wish I had one

Funny how this thread started as a 'look at the bad driving' one and turned into a 'look at his crap cycling' one.

Either way, why is this thread useful? Because there is footage of it. All of you cyclists that have decided cam-wearing cyclists fall under one new category of 'attention-seeking drama queen douchebags' need to bear in mind two important things. Without my opinion of this guy's cycling, his footage creates debate and an educational tool for other cyclists / enthusiasts. If he didn't record his footage then there wouldn't be evidence from which to learn from, be it that he's a careless cyclist or that he witnessed poor driving.

Secondly, whilst I agree that there are cam-cyclists that are revelling in their YouTube 'fame' by posting drivel, the majority (including me) use one to document a hobby they love doing, whilst at the same time protecting themselves against the thousands of reckless drivers.

No need for the hate!

Well, I suspected it would reach at least 4 pages while Fossy has predicted 10  The OP was last seen at 3.15pm starting on the alcohol and hasn't been heard from since so maybe?

There's enough weight on your bike already! I'm sure the moments you wish you had one soon pass and common sense prevails.....

If you keep your helmet cam footage for 'personal use' then all well and good, I don't know if you upload snippets for public consumption or not. I would have thought that more effectice protection from reckless drivers would come in the form of body armour, defensive cycling and (typed through gritted teeth) a cycle helmet. I really can't see a camera doing much to prevent or reduce injuries in an incident.

Agreed - no, I've made one vid that I posted on youtube more for pointers and feedback, which I've since removed. I'm not saying it prevents bodily harm but it the event that a reckless driver (no matter how defensive your cycling is) takes you out, you have (hopefully!) irrefutable evidence. I'm a defensive cyclist but I'm aware that most drivers aren't 'defensive drivers' and so if a by-product of using a cam for self-enjoyment is that it may also document the unthinkable, then fab.

I accept that reasoning and arguement fully, although I believe it is an unduly pessimistic view of life and the dangers of cycling

So you are still discussing this :-) I've been out to a restaurant and had a really nice meal... had a couple of beers with some friends and you are still discussing my bicycle ride. I hope that you have had time for something more fun a Friday evening :-)
