Lube and stuff

So, bike should be delivered today, Yay!
But what 'stuff' should I buy to keep in the shed?
Completely new to cycling and can't afford to completely stock out with all kinds of magic greases that I might never use. So what's essential?

A small bottle of chain lubricant.

It depends if you want to perform basic repairs and maintenance, but I couldn't be without the following :

A chain breaker tool.
KMC missing link
Allen keys
Tyre levers
Spare inner tubes.
Track pump
A pocket sized pump to take with you on a ride.

^ all this plus a saddlepack to carry it in (not the track pump , and just the allen keys that fit the bolts on the bike - or a small multi tool), and a puncture repair kit.

Ordered a track pump and hand pump and get tyre levers as part of a pack with repair kit etc.
I'll look at the other stuff too then :-)
Haven't bought inner tubes yet as don't know if gong to keep 23 tyres or go to 25

I think you've already done it but order a pump spare tubes and tyre levers to get you started and amass the above list. I don't know if its been mentioned but a multitool is also handy, mine (a Topeak Hexus II) has tyre levers and chain breaker built in.

And some wet wipes (or old rags) to go with the chain lube. Search on here for 'mickle method' for correct procedure to use both. This will save you hours of time, effort and headaches. So you can ride more!
And as you should have had the bike for more than 24 hours now, you can tell us how your first ride went.

Shadow, as you asked, my first ride was a 2.7 mile through the village and back home.
Nervous and very unsure of myself on the road, never the less I still enjoyed it. Need to make some adjustments to saddle etc but yeah it was ok :-)

When you need new tyres if you want 25's then get them, but don't waste your money on them now as you won't feel or gain any benefit from them IME.

Nervousness and anxiety will soon disappear. Glad you enjoyed it. That feeling will become even greater.

As smokey says, keep whatever tyres came with the bike until you need to change them. Then you can decide if you want to go to 25's. I have 23 on one bike and 25 on another, both seem to happy with the same size inner tubes.
