My weekdays consist of:
  • 6am - getting up
  • 7.30am - cycling the three miles to work
  • 8am till 5pm - working/ posting on CycleChat
  • 5pm - cycling three miles home
  • 5.30pm till 6.15pm - dinner
  • 6.15pm till 6.30pm - falling asleep in front of 'In the night garden'
  • 6.30pm till 9pm - bathing my offspring and trying to get her to go sleep (it seems to take forever, I wish I had her energy!)
  • 9pm till 10pm - spending quality time with Mrs Culture
  • 10pm till 6am - reading / sleep
SO - the only chance I get for extra exercise is the half an hour I'm unchained from my desk at lunchtime. At best I can manage ten miles in this time, but at worst I manage nothing.
I'm still working my way through the many many biscuit selection packs we got given at Christmas, and this coupled with a cold I've had forever means I've slacked off on my lunchtime exercise, but I MUST re-start!
Saturdays I look after my daughter so my wife and work and Sundays we try and spend as family days.
I'm not moaning at all, just looking for reassurance that I'm not the only one I guess!

My wife asked if I'd ever consider moving back out into the sticks, and my first thought was that it would be nice to have a longer commute!

See.. I don't get this Andrew.
If you want a longer commute, then do a longer commute. Nothing really stopping you except probably time constraints.
It's what I do every day.

I really need to work on extending my commute this year. its only 5 miles at the moment with plenty of opportunity for more, if Im not lazy. With imminent new baby, it might be my only chance of extending my mileage for a while!

my suggestion would be to increase your commuting distance, so you don't have to look for additional cycle time. I'm lucky in that my commute is a lot longer, so getting the mileage in,is never an issue

Yes but lucky enough to have a gym and pool at work which makes it easier.

Wow!

Oh I do extend my commute, when I get up early enough  I'm not making excuses but when the wee one is poorly and I've gotten up four or five times during the night my enthusiasm wains somewhat

Going through that at the moment with our (nearly) 3yo. Going through his clingy and needing assurance at night stage at the moment, so waking up every couple of hours till about 5am then that's it, he's awake.

I used to run or cycle at lunchtime, when I had an office job. We didn't have a shower in my last works but I had wet wipes & deodorant, it seemed to work as nobody ever complained. Nowadays I work with dogs so my 'lunch times' are spent dog walking and grabbing something out of my pack up on the fly.

As for the biccies. Take them down to your local food bank or Salvation Army, then you won't be tempted ^_^

I'm going to start again, I'm debating bringing my MTB into work so i can blast around the clay trails at lunch again, muddy fun is good fun at lunch! either that or hit big hills on my roadie.

we know that pain too. Although Oli wont allow me (step dad) to see to him, so OH has to do it, which is hard seeing as shes 8.5 months pregnant and has a horrible cold! Oli always sleeps until 7.15 though, so we dont have early start problems.
