I did a ride last Sat with cotton shorts over unpadded lycra leggings, then on the way back to the train home the shorts got soaked so I took them off at the station.
Then met up with a lady from the same cycling club I'd just been out with, I'm not normally self-conscious but wished I'd kept them on, esp as I had to get up and move my bike during the journey. Once you know someone there's a sort of shame that you never feel in front of strangers.
It depends where you are - in lycra in a room full of audaxers, or stripped off at the skinny-dipping club - fine by me. Unless you're the really hardcore type, Tynan, wouldn't feel out of place making a porn clip in the middle of Piccadilly Circus maybe? - "Hey, who's scared of our bodies, that's cool ..."
somewhere in between JT I think, nicely put though, I don't feel self conscious in lycra kit as long as it clear I'm just about to or have just cycled, I think it's rather smart and certainly comfortable
only self conscious in that I feel obliged to quicker than anyone that isn't in cycle gear
