My lad needs a new charger which Apple want £28.00 for.

He's seen cheap ones on Amazon, but the reviews are mixed, is there an alternative, or does he need to stump up?

I don't know what you mean?

Let me remind you...

It is a MacBook

Apple saved 15% in weight by removing the earphone jack on the iPhone and similar by removing USB and other ports with USB C from the MacBook

They have now achieved the same by removing the h from charger... the carger

15% less letters, and did you really need the letter h?

I've bought non genuine chargers back when I had a Powerbook with no problems, but you do hear some horror stories - albeit very rarely. You still wouldn't want it to be your house on the local news with a fire engine outside, mind you.

I bought mine from a local computer shop - i.e. someone with a tangible reputation to defend. It wasn't the cheapest one out there, but it wasn't as much as apple wanted (I seem to recall back then they were £60 or something ridiculous) £28 doesn't sound so bad for peace of mind, to be honest. There is a surprising amount of electronics in a power supply, as I discovered when I cracked my HP one open accidentally.

To be far. £28 isn't a lot for a legit and safe charger.

For a cheap device I'd chance q cheap charger. But I wouldn't be trying to save £10 for something attached to a £1k+ device.

I've always used cheapo chargers from China (ebay). Never had one blow up or anything...the only problem with them is they don't seem to last all that long, but I think over time they work out a lot cheaper than buying originals.
