I remember looking at one back in '85. Ended up buying a Mercian instead but was around the same price.

I wonder what the Pound Sterling/USD exchange rate would have been back then?
Even if it was 2 dollars to the pound, that would make it a £500 bike, which in 1984 was a fair chunk of money. About £1500 today, adjusted for UK inflation.

Just picked up a Rapide. Race model so no mudguard mounts etc. Going to give it a resto/colour change. Think it's 89 (531 decal and if the serial number gives the date)
It's full 105 and after a strip and clean rides really nice.
Would love to have a better picture of the headbadge and top tube decals to get remade.
See the above thread
If you mean about decals they are different on mine
That's fine for adjusting for UK inflation but what was £1 worth in $USD in 1984?. I'm pretty sure that Sterling is closer to parity with the Dollar now than it was 37 years ago.
Or put it another way, how much is $999 USD in 1984 the equivalent of in $USD today?
You need to account for both inflation and the fluctuation of currency exchange rates over time.
