Hello everyone!

I have recently acquired an e-bike for my deliveries, and I'm a bit worried about the long-term maintenance. I already have replacement inner tubes and puncture kits planned for longer journeys (Maybe a pannier rack?), but I'm not sure about washing the bike with all those electronics. Does anyone have any tips on keeping my bike in good shape over the years?

Thank you

Maintain it as you would any other bike, but in addition do anything the manufacturer suggests in the instructions as regards the battery and electrics.

My bike has a charger port near the pedals, i covered it with some tape pretty early otherwise I treat it like any other bike.

I keep the tyre pressures correct. Clean and oil the chain, keep the battery topped up and ride it occasionally. Thats all I do. I do not even get it serviced. I have had it for 4 years and it works well.

I would say think how much you charge the battery. Unless you need the range, try to keep it under around 80% and try not to get it too low. This will improve the life of the battery. On the other hand if you need the range and don't want to think too much about it, just use it as you need, but dont keep it at 100%

Or will it?

Modern machines with a BMS will automatically maintain battery "headroom" for this purpose. Even when showing 100% full they are in reality closer to 85% topped up.

As the battery ages and degrades the BMS does its thing and the user may not see any degradation for a long time as the headroom gives space for the degradation to occur without affecting the actual capacity available to the user.

Don't try and second-guess this - manufacturers go to a lot of effort with it. The only thing we should be doing is ensuring it gets used and that the battery does not sit in the same state, low or high, for too long.
