Since I know next to nothing about bike maintenance with the exception of putting air in my tyres and oiling the chain :shy: , I am thinking of doing a maintenance course at EBC. Its £49 with lunch and covers the below, just wondered if you guys thought it a decent price for the knowledge gained?
  • Puncture repair: wheel removal, locating punctures, fixing punctures, wheel refitting.
  • Wheel truing - essential for better braking.
  • Brake adjustment for powerful, silent stopping.
  • Adjusting hub bearings for maximum life and smooth running.
  • Gear adjustment: including fitting new cables and fine tuning front and rear mechanisms.
  • Bottom bracket and headset adjustment.
  • Recommendations for routine bicycle servicing.

Your thoughts?

What would be cool is a once a month maintenance workshop club where you take your bike along meet experience guys, perform tasks on your bike and watch/help others do things like wheel truing, fitting cranks etc.

That way you learn, fix your own bike and meet other cyclists to talk about peanut car drivers and gels.

thats a really good idea, would take some planning and organisation to do though, I'm not volunteering to do it I'm not experienced enough to begin with

Join your local bike club. If its anything like the one in my area it'll have a club meet once a month or so wihere the more experienced riders gladly pass on advice and tips and usually show you how to do things if you turn up with your bike. Maybe not all clubs do this but I'm pretty sure you'll find a helpful soul to give you a few pointers if nothing else.
